BARK Dog Safety Session

Image
BARK Dog Safety Session Today we had our visit from the BARK Dogwise educators. They brought along 3 dogs for us to meet and learn about. They taught us about when it's okay to approach a dog, how to approach a dog, and what to do if we come across an unattended dog.        We had fun playing a game pretending to be like a tree, if we want a dog to leave us alone. We had to practise making ourselves small in case we come across a dog that we don't know.

Finn the Movie star dog This week Jimmy's pet dog Finn came for a visit. He has starred on the movie 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' and adverts amongst other things. We really enjoyed the visit and had fun writing about Finn as well as learning how to draw dogs like Finn. Go to    https://youtu.be/WhC0FztMXcU  to see Finn in an advert. Finn came to our classroom. He is nine. He has Jimmy for his owner. He is black, brown, white. He is a movie star and has his own bank account. He doesn’t let the ball go. Finn is a big dog not a little dog. Jessie Finn came in our classroom. He sat down and stood up and he didn’t bite anyone. He didn’t because he was friendly. He was old. We love Finn because he can talk. We want him to come back. Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year This week we learnt about Chinese New Year. We found out about the traditions involved with Chinese New Year. We worked out our zodiac animal and learnt about the Year of the Dog. We retold the story of the Chinese zodiac and created lanterns and lucky red envelopes. In Maths we completed a Statistics challenge in which we had to sort, tally and graph a bag of lollies. The children were very pleased to get to eat the lollies at the end of the session! Here are 2 of our 're-tellings' of the Story of the Chinese Zodiac: The Rat Wins Once upon a time there was a rat and a cat. They were good friends. The king wanted all the animals on China. He wanted to make years out of them. The rat and the cat decided they would go together to see the king. The cat fell asleep so the rat carried on without the cat. Soon the rat came to the palace. There were so much animals.  Then the king said "We will have a water race. Whoever wins will have the first

Welcome to Room 7 2018

Welcome to Room 7 in 2018 We have had a great first week in Room 7. It's been lovely to meet all the children and their families. We have been focused on getting to know each other and setting up our classroom routines. We wrote about our summer holiday and our Waitangi weekend this week. We learnt about how to keep ourselves safe in the sun and created a classroom treaty in which we all agreed to work towards a safe and happy classroom. We had fun talking about what we want to be when we grow up and had a brainstorming session talking about what we think learning is; our purpose for being at school. In Maths, we are currently learning about collecting data and presenting it on graphs in our Statistics focus.   We had our first P.E session in the Gym with Room 8 last Friday. We really enjoyed playing games and using our problem solving skills to work together to complete team challenges.
